Nissan Repair: Nissan Micra 2006 Start problem when hot, auto electrician, nissan micra 2006

Question
Hi

My Nissan Micra Model 2006 won't start when the engine is warmed up by either driving a distance or depending on the temperature off the day. Thus in the morning I have no problem starting it, but when it is a hot day or I have driven a distance and the engine warms up, it won't start at all.

The only way to start it then is to wait for the engine to cool...or pushstart.

I have had it at an auto electrician..his thinking it is the ignition. This does not make logical sense to me. Then I will certainly have the problem regardless off the engine being hot or cold?

Nissan had a recall on these vehicles, they replaced the ECM relay..which I thought might sort the problem. But the problem persist.

Any ideas?

Answer
A bad starter motor is a possibility. There are 2 wires going to the starter motor. One is the cable from the battery positive terminal. The other one is a thinner wire that terminates at the solenoid. The end of the battery cable that terminates at the starter it should read the exact same voltage of the battery.
With the engine off and a digital multimeter connected to the battery we read the voltage. Let's say we read 12.6 volts. Now we move the multimeter to the starter terminal and it should read 12.6 volts also. If not, the cable is bad and it needs to be replaced or the connections on one or both ends are loose or corroded. Next, we connect a test light to the smaller solenoid wire. With someone turning the key to the "start" position, the light should illuminate. 1. light comes on but the starter does not turn=bad starter motor.
2. light does not come on=wiring problem. It could be a bad connection in the ignition switch or a faulty wire. The engine hot and no start is a typical starter going bad problem.
