Nissan Repair: Flickering interior light (or lower level light stays on) after all doors closed, window latch, weather seal

Question
QUESTION: Do you know where or what the 'rear cargo door window' light switch is? The interior lights stay on or flicker (also the dashboard door ajar indicator) after closing all doors.  This is on the dimmer of two settings of lights (the brighter setting is when doors are open).  I push on the glass window on rear door and the lights go out.  Eventually as the window is pushed out slightly by the weather seal these lights come back on the same lower setting.  I cannot see a switch on the window or frame of.  Or it is well hidden.  This is a 1990 p/finder with p/w and locks.

Thanx - Stew

ANSWER: Hi Stew -

The switch should be located on the tailgate rail. Open the tailgate and you should see a rubber boot. Under that should be the switch. It is either loose, or needs replacement as it is not opening the circuit when the gate is closed.

Repairing the switch should eliminate the "door ajar" liught as well.

Hope this helps -

QUESTION: Kalvin:  That particular switch is good and functioning normally.  The light problem is associated with the tailgate window.  The one with defroster elements in it - It can only be opened only with an ignition key.  When the window is closed (locked in place) the flickering condition occurs.  I just push downward on the window to tighten up the weatherstripping seal and the low-level interior lights go out. Releasing the pressure on the window does allow the flickering/on condition to return. Is the a sensor or circuit associated with the window latch or perhaps I am looking at a unique 'short'?

ANSWER: Hi Stewart -

OK. We don't get too much of that here - windows with defrosters. Sorry about that.

So you are saying that when you press on just the window, the light goes out? What if you press on the tailgate itself?

There is no correlation between the defroster circuit and the interior lights, so this would be an anomaly if it is not the gate switch.

Let me know -

QUESTION: I used the defroster elemnents as a reference only.  Is there a contact or light switch incorporated into the act of opening the tailgate window that u are aware of?  This is where I am having that 'on' problem.  As said earlier, simply pushing down on the window (when closed/locked) from the outside turns the low-level lights out.  Once I let the presure off the window the lights come back after a bit (10-15 secs).  Any thoughts or input?

Answer
Hi Stew

Yes. This is what I was alluding to. I think that switch needs adjustment or replacement, or the tailgate is not aligned properly. So, if it does not matter on whether you press the window or the tailgate, and the lights go out, then I would check the switch, as mentioned on the tailgate rail.

Hopefully I am understanding you correctly -
