Nissan Repair: 96 nissan pickup, nissan pickup, carbon deposits

Question
QUESTION: I have a 96 Nissan pickup w/2.4 engine.  Its been sitting for 3 years.  A couple of months ago I started it up and it ran fine.  Fearing the fuel had gone bad, I let it idle until the fuel ran dry.  I put in fresh gas, started it and now I have a miss across all rpm range.  Used injector cleaner additive (no help) so I replaced the fuel filter.  No improvement. Whats my next step? Thanks.

ANSWER: Hi Steve -

Have you tried checking the plugs? If it is a steady miss, then that could be why. Usually if it cuts out intermittently, it is fuel related, a steady miss would probably be electrical.

QUESTION: Pulled the plugs and they have carbon deposits.  Could it be the EGR valve?  Never having removed one, I tried to move the diaphragm up and down but it doesn't seem to move.  Not sure if I am pushing in the right place as it is difficult to get to. I'm also wondering if I should pull out the gas tank and clean it and the fuel line. Thanks for all you help.

Answer
Hi Steve -

I would stick with the simpler things to check first.Less headache for you. Try replacing the plugs, and checking all the wires. It really seems like it is electrical since you say the miss is at any RPM.There is also a chance that an injector could be clogged with debris, being that the fuel ran down all the way. I know you cleaned them, however there could be something lodged.

Hope this helps -
