Nissan Repair: auto body repair - nissan paint, factory paint, auto body repair

Question
do auto body repair shops use genuine nissan body paint for nissan vehicles for body damage repair or do they use a mixture of their own? I ask because I have a high gloss burgundy red on my 1990's pathfinder and want to know if they can match it.

Hi Peter -

The repair shops do not use the same brand as the dealers, however they do have the codes for the particular color so they know what tints and base colors to add for that formula.

However keep in mind that although you can get the exact color of the factory paint, it will probably not match your vehicle's current color. Being 11 years old, there is some oxidation and fading going on, so once applied, it will not be the same color anyway. I know it is not good news. I do not know the damage on your vehicle, but the best way is to paint the entire panel, or the entire side of the vehicle to hide the difference better.
