Nissan Repair: Nissan Pulsar wont start, nissan pulsar, fuel issues

Question
QUESTION: Have a Nissan Pulsar 1999 - 1.6L.  Was running fine, stopped at an intersection, went splutter, splutter, stop.  Plenty of fuel in tank.  Have since changed the fuel filter, checked there is fuel being pumped through (and there is - the PSI is about 80), checked for spark (yes there is spark), checked the ECM and think this is ok - tried to do the self diagnose and the light on the dash flashed 5 long and 5 short (believe this to be signalling all OK).  What am I missing?  At this stage the car will turn over but not start.

ANSWER: Hi Annett

You are correct that is code 55 and means no malfunction.

Can you tell me how the spark was checked?

QUESTION: Spark was checked two ways - using a testing device not directly on a spark plug but on the end part (the light showed up when the key was turned) and also we pulled a spark plug out and checked the distance and also held it against the engine and saw sparks.  We did only check the one spark plug though.

Answer
Hi Annett

OK. This is a fuel issues then.

Try removing the intake boot and spray a liberal amount of starting fluid in it. Quickly repalce the boot and try to start the engine. If the engine starts and quickly dies off, then the cold start valve may be malfunctioning.

I don't think it is the fuel pump if you got 80PSI.

Hope this helps -
