Hi Irene -

There is a rubber grommet above the brake pedal that rests against the brake light switch so that the brake lights turn off when the pedal is released. I think the grommet has worn off and needs replacement.

It is very inexpensive, however a bit of a trick to install.

Once you get the part, insert the pointed end into the hole where the brake switch rests on the pedal arm and pull the brake pedal towards you to lock it in place.
