Nissan Repair: SMOG Fail, fuel pressure regulator, 300zx

Question
Im having Smog issues with my 87' 300zx non-turbo. On my first test, The PCV hoses and PCV needed to be changed and the timing was at 26 deg. and needed to be at 20. I have corrected all the problems on the list. I recently changed out the fuel pressure regulator and in doing so i broke the sensor that was on it. Since then i have been retested for smog and my emissions are through the roof. Is the broken sensor the cause of it?
Id hate to pay for someone to look at it, if this is the cause? thanks

Answer
Hi Steven -

Is your check engine light on?

Yes, these sensors report back to the ECM (car's computer) and it tells the engine how to run. Not having input can send the readings haywire. However it should turn the check engine light on.

Hope this helps -
