Nissan Repair: SPARK PLUGS, gap size, steering linkage

Question
I have a 2000 Nissan Maxima with 148K miles. What type of spark plugs should I get and what is the proper gap size?
Also, what other recommendations should I look into for a tune-up?

Regards,

Hector

Answer
Hi Hector -

Usually platinum plugs are the best. NGK has them. They are factory gapped, however you might want to check them at .060".

Tune ups these days are pretty simple due to the computer running everything from the timing to the idle speed. If you don't have any engine codes and the car is running well, I would not touch anything (such as the timing, fuel to air mixture, idle speed, etc.). However you might want to check the following:
Distributor cap and rotor (if so equipped)
Drive belts
Cooling system (coolant flush and hoses)
Engine oil condition
Transmission oil condition
Brake pads front and rear
Steering linkage for play
Tires rotated

Hope this helps -
