Nissan Repair: 1993 Nissan Maxima, nissan maxima, gauge wire

Question
QUESTION: Hi I really hope you can help me or at least point me to a starting point. I have a 93 Nissan Maxima.  I was running fine and all was well, untill yesterday I killed it at the store and when I went to start it..NOTHING, NADDA, ZILCH.  No noise no click nothing. Had the battery checked and it was fully charged, and good. Checked all the fuses and they were fine.  NOW if I have my hand on the fuse box when I turn the key I feel a very faint click, but that's it.  I'm a single mom and fairly handy but I need help where do I start?
Thanks,
Diana

ANSWER: Hi Diana -

Let's double check -

Turn the headlights on. If they are dim or do not come on, please re-check the battery, also ensuring that all the terminals are clean and tight.

Another thing you can check is the fusible link. This should be where the positive battery cable connects to the battery, like a 12 Gauge wire.

If the battery absolutely checks out OK, and the fusible link is good, the starter needs to be checked.

However to check the starter, you would need a circuit tester, preferably a light type with probe. There are 2 wires that go to the starter, a large one that come from the battery (positive cable), and a smaller one. The smaller one has power only when the key is turned as if to start the car. If it does have power, then the starter is defective.

These are just basic instructions. If you still cannot get it started, please let me know.

Hope this helps -

QUESTION: ok checked the battery it is good...checked the starter and it is good too...now what?

Answer
Hi Diana -

If you are not getting power when you turn the key at the small wire going to the starter -

Have you checked that fusible link? And all the fuses both under dash and in the engine compartment?

The only other thing I can think of is the ignition switch.

Can you explain to me how you "killed it at the store?"

thanks
