Nissan Repair: 1992 nissan pulsar hatchback, auto electrician, nissan pulsar

Question
Hi,ive had my nissan pulsar for 4 years its had every
service and has always ran well till last week.i tried 2
start my car it was turning over but wouldnt ignite. After a
few tries it started and was fine till i got to a set of
lights on taking off again it died.turned the key a few
times flooded it and went...driving along keeping revs up it
was coughing along.. smelling very rich continued this till
i got home..had RAC come out and look at it.. he said it was
an electrical thing and to take it 2 an auto electrician...I
did that they had it 4 two day and took my immobiloser
out...they said that was the only electrical fault and we
should be fine now...we drove the car home and it was fine
left it parked started again drove for 40 mins parked and it
would not start again...and i started the process all over
again...Both mechanics and the auto eleccy say its
fine....any insight you have about what it could be??? would
be very much appreciated

Answer
Jade,

Let me know if yours is fuel injected.  If it is the problem could be with a few different things.  Ask them if there are any codes.  a 1992 has an on board diagnosis capability and they can read the codes.

I would think a stuck injector or a defective air meter.  That is, if it is fuel injected.

If yours has a carburetor the power valve needs to be replaced.  Or the float is sticking.  Most of the time it is the power valve if you have a carburetor.
