Nissan Repair: Security problem, sophisticated security system, nissan maxima

Question
I took my 1988 nissan maxima to a mechanic and he told me i needed a timeing belt. After he said he fixed it then he told me the car wouldnt stay started and that it was the security system that wouldnt let it stay started. Ive never heard of anything like that doin that to a model this old. The car ran fine before i needed the belt. Could the security system do that or did this mechanic mess up my car

Answer
Hi Thomas -

Although the Maxima at that time has a very sophisticated security system, I highly doubt that it was coincidental that this should happen. It is pretty obvious to me that the repair caused this situation. Although hard to prove without some investigation of your own, I would take it back and request it be repaired on their dollar.

I think during the repair he dislodged or disconnected a wire and forgot to re-connect.

Hope this helps -
