QuestionQUESTION: 1992 nissan sentra 1.6 manual .when i get in car in the mornings air works good for about 10 to 15 minutes and then compressor quits engaging and air gets warm.i can let car set for a bit and then get in again and air works good again for a few minutes and then same thing.when air works it is ice cold and will freeze you out.also it is still r-12 freon and all original i believe.

Probably there is restriction in your low side line, maybe at the orifice filter. Could also be the high side tripping due to high pressure.
Best way to check this is to get a manifold on the system and check the pressures. With the R12, low side should read about 40, and high should be 160 or thereabouts. If you don't have access to a manifold, take it to a competent mechanic.

QUESTION: haven't checked pressures yet,but i was goofing off with the kids and i turned the fan speed down and the air comes back on.seems any speed but 4 will work and i have tried repeatedly with no fail.ice cold no problems.any ideas what would cause this.the only thing i have done was replace resistor for the fan motor.

Looks like the fan switch then. All speeds work instead of high.

QUESTION: no no no fan switch is fine.starts out cold then after a few minutes compressor clutch disengages and then the air gets warm but if i turn the switch down to 3 compressor clutch reengages and starts cooling again.

Are you saying that the fan works on only high? (You stated works on any speed but 4)?
Also in your original message you stated that the A/C works fine for a few minutes, then gets warm (compressor quits).
which one is it?
Can you tell me what the pressures are?
