Nissan Repair: Air Bag wont turn on - 2000 Nissan Frontier XE, nissan frontier, airbag system

Question
A few months ago, I turned off the passenger airbag using my key.  Now I want to turn it back on however the key won't turn.  How do I turn my airbag back on?

Answer
Heather,

You could check with a locksmith to see what is making the cylinder stick.  But, since it is an airbag system they will probably not want to work on it.  You are most likely looking at a dealer or a body shop to correct the problem.  The liability concern is what most shops are concerned with.  Now, if you could source a used switch you could replace it yourself.  But, to do this the battery would have to be disconnected for five minutes.  Then, the airbag fuse and wait another five minutes and then the harness to the switch.  Then, reconnect each in reverse order.  I assume no liability here.  If you disconnect anything with the battery connected it will throw an airbag code and that will set the light and it is a $100 dollar bill minimum to get it turned off.  Also, you risk setting off an airbag if you mess with the connectors while it is powered.  One last thing, if you have kids like I have there is the possibility of someone sticking something in the key slot.  Remember that any Nissan key will work with the lock.
