Nissan Repair: elec problems, nissan altima, fuse panel

Question
I recently replaced the alternator in my 98 nissan altima and forgot the unhook the battery while i did it. The wires for the alternator sparked against the motor before i noticed what i had done. Once i put it back together none of the dash lights or guages worked and it wouldnt idle like there was a sensor out on the car or something. I checked all the fuses in the fuse panel and the fuse panel under the hood but no luck. there is also some Big square looking fuses under the hood. How do u tell if those are bad as well?

Answer
Mike,

The alternator has a fuse link at the positive battery post.  I am sure that is what was fried when the wires touches.  Take the positive terminal off the battery and get a razor blade and cut the tape off until you get the small wire separated from the larger one.  The small one has the fuse link on it.  If yours has the fuse on the positive terminal that is where the problem is.  If there is no fuse it is the wire I described.
