Nissan Repair: Transmission Problem, nissan terrano, transmission overhaul

QUESTION: Hi,

I have a Nissan Terrano 1992, Automatic. Now I'm having problems with my transmission. Occasionally when I'm travelling through town the trans decides to not change up a gear. The revs are at 3-4 but I'm not moving at all. I don't know how to make it stop, it just runs properly when its ready. Do you have any idea what it might be?

Hi Lamour -

A lot of times it does not shift because the filter screen is clogged, and later on when the engine warms up and the oil has less viscosity, it begins to shift. If this is the case, try replacing the oil and filter in the transmission and see if it gets better.

Otherwise, I am afraid you are in need of a transmission overhaul.
