Nissan Repair: 1997 Nissan Maxima A/C Problem, nissan maxima, motot

Question
Calvin, thanks for helping me in the past with my Nissan problems.  This morning my air conditioner started rattling and the blower stopped blowing.  The switch will turn over, but nothing hot or cold will come out of the vents.  I also smelled something burning under the hood for a minute or so.

My husband checked under the hood.  The a/c compressor is engaging / disengaging when the switch is turned on with the engine running.  Also, the a/c belt is not frayed and is tight, not loose.  Do you think it needs a new switch or a blower motor?  Thanks for all of your help.

Answer
Hi Elly -

Looks like your blower motor fried. This is located under dash passenger side behind the glove box. Usually about 5 or 6 screws (10mm) to remove. The fan and motor come separately, so be sure to remove the fan and reuse it.

If you want to be sure whether it is the motor or switch, you will need a circuit tester light type 12V. With the ignition on and A/C switch and fan switch on, you should be getting power to one of the wires to the motot. If so, the replace the motor. If not, then it is the switch or resistor.

From what you describe, though, looks like the motor.

Hope this helps -
aloha
