Nissan Repair: 98 pthfinder wont start, light probe, probe type

Question
Hi I have a 98 pathfinder that will not even turn over. This happened all of a sudden it was starting fine and then on evening wouldn't even crank. I can hear the fuel pump kick in, all the lights inside work the radio works but turn the key and nothing. I had the starter rebuilt and still nothing. Checked all fuses and everything looks good.  Check the codes and p1605 (manufacturer controlled computer output circuit) code came up. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Hi Chris -

Try this test. Turn the headlights on, and try to start the car. If the headlights go dim or turn off all of a sudden, then it is the battery or the connections to it.

Have you checked the battery connections? Loose or corroded terminals could cause this.

Do you have a circuit tester (light probe type 12V?). If so, check power to the starter while you have the key in the engage position (you need a helper for this). If you don't have power to the starter while the key is in the start position, then it could be the ignition switch.

Hope this helps -
