Nissan Repair: 2001 Nissan Sentra GXE 1.8 Stalling, nissan sentra gxe, crank shaft

Question
QUESTION: got a 2001 Nissan Sentra that stalls at operating temperature. while driving on freeway and coming to off ramp, the cars dies, wait a few minutes and then restarts. the temp gauge does not go above normal temp, about a 1/3 way from bottom. changed thermo stat. took to mechanic and codes read bottom 2 sensors bad and crank shaft sensor.  mechanic had me change the sensors, he cleared codes and drove today and the same thing happened...stalled while exiting freeway and wait and then restarts.  check engine light cam on...any sugestions....going to take back to mechanic tomorrow to read codes. nissan had a recall on the computer and crank shaft sensor, both were done, the crank sensor done twice...any help would be greatly appreciated...

ANSWER: Hi Manny -

One thing comes to mind -

Did you check the ignition module, located in the distributor? It's famous for failing at operating temperatures.

Hope this helps -

QUESTION: the car does not have a distributor, they have idividual ignition coils for each spark plug and all four have been replace within the last 2 years...one went out and the car ran horrible, took to dealer and two weeks later the ck engine came on again and then i replaced the remainding 3 with new aftermarket ones....they had a recall for foam that insulates the ecm and it was replaced in 2004 BUT i have read online that others have had problems with ecm due to damage caused by the BAD foam and nissan does not address the problem created by the recall...any help is greatly appreciated....

Hi Manny -

OK, there are 2 types if ignition systems, now I know which one you have. What was the code for the check engine light being on? It is currently on correct? It appears something is failing under heat load. These things are the hardest to track down.

I am attaching an engine diagram for your car. Perhaps once you get the code, we can go through this togetrher, using the chart.

Hope this helps -
