Nissan Repair: follow up question to: runs smooth, then runs, stalls often, cold start, fuel pressure

Question
Thank you for the quick answer.  I should add that the 300zx is very hard to start at times, but after it warms up to operating temperatures, it will always start up, but will not hold an idle, stalls, hesitates, knocks until it goes over 3000rpm.  Could the ignition coil still be a possible problem.  Will definitely have the fuel pump looked at unless there is an easy way to check it myself.  Again, thank you for the answer.

Answer
Hi Henry -

Usually, if it is the igntion coil, or anything electrical, the miss is very regular and consistent. Ususally when the engine is under load, such as going up hills, or under acceleration. the miss will be steady and strong.

If it is bogging, hesitating, hard start, I would check the fuel pump, especially if it is hard starting when cold. Could be the cold start valve, or simply low fuel pressure.

Hope this helps -
