Nissan Repair: 2001 nissan frontier 2wd v6 supercharged, cam follower, nissan frontier

Question
i just purchased this truck with 111,500 miles.  the front end pops while turning the previous owner has installed P265/70R17 tires.  would these tires cause premature suspension wear?  also while backing up the rear wheels growl. upon start up in the morning there is a ticking noise when the engine warms up it goes away, would that be an exhaust leak?

Answer
Kelly,

Suspension changes like larger tires can accelerate suspension wear.  But, at over 100,000 miles it is pretty much time to get suspension work done.  Control arms or tie rods are the usual suspects.  I would have a suspension shop inspect the components and replace those that are worn.

The ticking noise could well be an exhaust leak that goes away after the engine heats up.  Also, a cam follower could be dry and once the oil gets flowing the noise goes away.  A long screwdriver with the handle to your ear and the end on the valve cover can isolate the noise.  Check this out and email me back.
