Nissan Repair: Electrical Problem, nissan sentra, alternator problem

Question
I have a 1994 Nissan Sentra with A/C and 137,000 miles on it. I am having a problem starting it. The battery was replaced and he car was not used for two days after replacement. I went to start it and the radio would go out, but the dome lights stays on and does not dim, and the car would not start. I cant imagine this could be an alternator problem as I did not run the car. I think there might be a short somewhere drawing down the battery when I am not using it. Where should I start looking for the short? Is there a common place where shorts occur?

Answer
Craig,

If the battery is draining there is a draw on the system.  That means that you are looking for a load that is staying on after the car is turned off.  I would be looking for large drain items like relays not releasing.  Blower motor, fuel pump are two items that are common.  You will need to examine where there could be devices that stay on.  Also, if you go to Autozone or Checker they could check the electrical system for you to make sure the battery does not have a dead cell or that the alternator is not charging properly.  There is a wire from the alternator that feeds back to the battery.  If the wire is damaged that could be the problem.  Email me back if you need more information.
