Nissan Repair: Turn signal switch 86 300zx, signal switch, steering wheel

Question
I have a new turn signal switch that I need to install on a 1996 300zx turbo.  I read an answer for a 1987 300zx that said the steering wheel did not have to be removed.  Would this apply to a 1986?  If so, how do I remove the signal switch.  Does it pop out?  I have not applied much force so as not to break something.  I do not want to remove the steering wheel if it is not necessary.  Pleas help.

Thanks,
Glenn England
