Nissan Repair: GAS SMELL, vent lines, tank area

I OWN 1995 NISSAN QUEST,WHEN I START IT.I CAN SMELL GAS FROM COMING THOUGH THE HEATER OR AIR CONDITIONER.ONLY HAPPENS WHEN ITS RUNNING.I CANT FIND ANY GAS LEAKIING FROM ENGINE OR UNDER THE VEHICLE.WHEN ITS IDLING YOU CAN SMELL GAS 10 FEET AWAY.CAN YOU HELP ME WITH THIS PROBLEM

Hi Bob -

Have you noticed a drop in gas mileage? If not, you probably do not have a leak, especially if you don't see any fuel on the ground when you are idling.

I would check the gas cap. Sometimes it is not venting properly and the fumes are backtracking.

Also check the fuel tank area connections. the rubber vent lines could be cracked and venting fumes out that way.
