Nissan Repair: Nissan Sentra Exhaust system, 2005 nissan sentra, switch a roo

Question
QUESTION: Hi
I just bought a 2005 Nissan Sentra. It has a performance muffler, and I noticed that it has a straight pipe of around 2"25 from the catalytic Converter to the muffler ( by the tail pipe). Thus it makes a very loud noise, and sometimes need to wear ear plugs even the window is up. Can you please give me an idea how will I be able to lower the sound
thanks
Richard

ANSWER: Hi Richard -

QUESTION: Hi
Thank you for your reply. Yes I've checked,it's good but still lots of noise.

Thanks
Richard

ANSWER: I am sorry Richard, I gave you the wrong answer. I thought I was answering another person's question about noise in his engine.

OK, the only way you can reduce the sound is to replace the muffler. If you say it is a performance muffler, it probably does not "muffle" the sound a lot. Order the exhaust system to original vehicle specs, and you should be fine.

Hope this helps, and sorry for the switch - a - roo

QUESTION: Hi

Thanks for your reply.
The performance muffler looks great, but I don't want to take it off, if there something I can put in the middle i.e between muffler and catal converter to lower the noise.

Thank you , I really appreciate your comments
Richard

Answer
Hi Richard -

I was going to suggest that, however I am worried that another muffler will create extra back pressure not designed for the car and create problems. However the performance muffler you have should have minimal back pressure, so it may work.

Obviously this would be a special install, and the down side is every time you want to replace or repair the exhaust system, parts will have to be custom made.

Needless to say, this is up to you. I guess both options has it advantages and disadvantages.

Hope this helps -
