Nissan Repair: 94 pathfinder, knock sensor, gas filter

Question
QUESTION: hello i have a 94 pathfinder runs great till it warms up then starts to break up. check engine light is not on. i changed plugs wires cap rotor gas filter ign. coil and its still the same please help thanks

ANSWER: John,

Most common problem is the distributor wicking up oil past the seal to the optical shutter wheel and the LED pickup and receiver.  If there is oil under the distributor cover get a rebuilt distributor.

QUESTION: i pulled the distributor there is no oil past the seal. there is a 34 code in ecu the knock sensor not sure if it is old but would that cause the problem i am having the check engine light is still not on but does work any other ideas please thanks

Answer
John,

Yes, a code 34 is the knock sensor and I would replace it and reset the computer by either the screw on the computer or disconnect the battery for five minutes.  It will take three ignition cycles to get the Pathfinder to smooth out.  That is, drive the car somewhere and then do it again three times and the computer should have enough information to work for the altitude, climate and your driving style.
