Nissan Repair: starter 92 nissan pathfinder, nissan pathfinder, bellhousing

Question
is ther any easier way to change my starter on my 93 Nissan pathfinder 4/4 or any way u know how too thanks alot david

Answer
David,

No easier way other than suffering through the process.

Step 1

Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery. Raise and support the vehicle on jack stands.

Step 2

Remove the bolt that runs through the bellhousing into the top hole of the starter. The bolt is located on the driver's side of the vehicle on the top right of the bellhousing. It is usually a 15mm bolt. The bolt is hard to see so it must be felt for under the hoses for the heater.

Step 3

Remove the bottom bolt in the starter that goes through the starter and into the bellhousing. It is installed in reverse of the other bolt in the bellhousing. It may be necessary on some years to remove an intake manifold brace which is a straight bar behind the starter. It goes from the intake manifold to the block. If this is present it will not allow the starter to come out far enough to be removed.

Step 4

Pull the starter out enough to remove the electrical connectors. Remove the small wire---this is the switched power. Remove the large wire that is directly from the battery.

Step 5

Install the new starter in reverse order of removal.
