Nissan Repair: 2005 Sentra 1.8S (55,000 miles), fuel pressure regulator, haynes manual

Question
Hello Von, where is the fuel pressure regulator located at in my vehicle? I am having a problem for the second time now with the car having a hard time starting after the engine is hot and has been sitting for an hour or so. I bought an extended warranty when I purchased the vehicle. My dealer replaced the fuel pressure regulator approximately 8 months ago. They said at that time Nissan was having a problem with the regulators used
on the Sentra's. The vehicle was fine afterward but the same symptoms are here again. I would take it to the dealer again but they are fairly far away from where I live. I figured if it was not to difficult to change I could buy an aftermarket regulator and do it myself since there is a problem with the OEM ones anyway. I can do most of my own work so hopefully this is not that big of a deal to change. Thank you for your time and
service.

Answer
Rennie,

The regulator is located on the fuel pump and to change it you need to pull the pump from the gas tank.  Get a factory service manual or a Haynes Manual for process and prictures.  The procedure is quite involved.  Make sure you have someone with a fire extinguisher watching over the process.  And, this is a common problem for your car as the regulator check valve screw up.  A replacement should correct the problem.  If the dealer would cover it I would have them do the replacement.  And, since it was not so long ago they probably would do it for free.
