Nissan Repair: Nissan Almera stuttering when cold, nissan almera, nissan cars

Question
Hi got a 2004 almera 1.5 petrol 30,000 miles and never had any bother till now. The engine warning light went on to a constant and once started from cold the car would stutter between 2000 and 3000 RPM. Checked the manual and it said that there was a fault but not much more. So I took it to a garage and they said the computer came up with 2 faults one of which they said was an unknown code. They reset some sensors and replaced two others but had the car back 2 days now and it is still stuttering. I checked one website they said almera's eat up lamba sensors if thats a clue???
Help very much appreciated...

Answer
Stewart,

The Lamba (oxygen sensor) is a common problem.  But, at only 30,000 miles I would be hard pressed to think one had failed this soon.  They are suppoed to be good for 50,000 miles.  I have not lived in the UK since the 1970's so I would not know of any shops that could check the engine codes.  You need the codes for me to tell you for sure as to what the problem is.  An unknown code is due to the fact that they have a generic code reader that does not read your Nissan.  I would go to another shop that has a code reader for Nissan cars or one that will read the codes.  I have six different code readers and some work with a particular car and some do not.  Email me back after you get the codes and we'll know for sure.
