Hi again,when i start turn the key in ignition to start van sometimes it will not start and makes a scraping sound and then i have to turn off and keep trying and trying until it finally does sound and then of course i have the loud screeching sound happening with the fanbelt,im trying to fix the vehicle up on a budget as i am not rich lol..thanks again

You have two things going on.  First, I would replace or rebuild the starter.  It sounds like the bendix is not moving out to engage the ring gear.  The second is a loose belt that needs tob e tightened.  Both are relatively cheap.  If you can get a replaement solenoid/bendix fo rthe starter you can jsut change the parts out on your starter.  The belt costs nothing but the time for you to tighten it.  Email me back if you require more.  I would love to visit New Zealand.  I had an employee that worked on the C-130 program over there a few years back.  Seems that he had a wonderful time as did his family.
