Nissan Repair: steam/smoke, local wrecking yards, timing chain

Question
Yesterday after turning our car off to get gas,we restarted the car ad immediately it started to cut out then it seemed like it was going to run we got a few miles down the road and it started acting up again then it started smoking, we believe this to be steam, it was also coming out of the tailpipe, seems like maybe the tailpipe was putting out a little oil with the smoke/steam. We towed our car home and now it will not start.  Can you please tell us what likely happened, we were told that the timing chain went out.  Thank you, ann

Answer
Ann,

If there is steam and oil out the exhaust and the person said the timing chain went it would be advisable to get another engine.  Too costly to repair yours. greanleaf auto wrecking is a national chain I have had luck with and the cost of the used engine is reasonable.  Otherwise, check your local wrecking yards and go from there.
