Nissan Repair: Nissan Pulsar 1988 - wont start, nissan pulsar vector, spark plug wire

Question
Nissan Pulsar Vector 1988 1.8 Auto.

My car won't start. Was working fine with no problems one day, started first turn of the key. Then the other day just would not fire. Ocassionally it sounded like it was attempting to but it was very weak. I thought it could be fuel but also wonder if it is getting a decent spark. Fuel pump is running (I can hear it when I turn the key on).

Does you know of any likely causes for it to just go like that?

Cheers.

Answer
Hi Steve -

To check for spark, remove one spark plug wire, and stick a screwdriver in the boot until it wedges against the terminal inside. Hold the screwdriver 1/4" away from any metal surface of the vehicle while a helper cranks the engine (do not touch any metal surface while doing this). If there is no spark jumping between the surfaces, check or replace ignition module in the distributor. Also check the distributor cap and rotor for carbon tracking.

Hope this helps -
