Nissan Repair: 95 nissan altima antenna, rear quarter panel, antenna masts

Question
I have a 95 Nissan altima whose electric antenna that has been broken off at the base on the outside of the trunk. I was wondering how to replace the antenna shaft?

Answer
Paul,

Pep Boys and other parts stores have antenna masts.  But, since yours is broken off you will most probably need to remove the antenna from the car to get it disassembled to pull the cable out.  You will need to remove the chrome nut that holds the antenna assembly on the rear quarter panel.  Now, you will need to turn the key on to get power to the radio.  Now, turn the radio on and gently pull on the broken mast.  If it pulls free you are doing well.  Now, if it comes out all the way the next step is to feed the new antenna mast cable into the hole and surn off the radio.  Gently press the cable down the hole until it catches and pulls the cable in.  Work with it to get the mast in next.  Now, it should suck the whole antenna in.  Once it is done replace the nut and you are good as new.  If the above does not work you will need to remove the antenna assembly and disassemble it and do it by hand.  The mast should have instructions.  If not, email me back.
