Nissan Repair: hard to start, fuel pressure gauge, canister purge valve

Question
QUESTION: My 2001 sentra SE will hardly start after I refuel the car.  once I do get it to start after refueling, it starts fine all other times.

ANSWER: Tiesong,

I would make sure you are not topping off the car since any excess gas will go to the canister that holds vapor and flood it.  Now, on start up this will get sucked into the intake flooding the car making it hard to start.  Try not topping off when you fill up and let me know if it solves the problem.

QUESTION: thank you for your answers. I didn't topped off the car. When I put some gas and no full tank. the same things happened.I will try four or more time to start the car. once I start the car .every thing is fine and start fine all other times. hard to start just happened on puing some gas in tn car.

ANSWER: Tiesong,

Then, it sounds like a leaky injector.  I would get some Lucas fuel treatment and a tank of premium fuel and drive it and see if ti clears up.  If not get the injectors checked for leaks.  That is, a fuel pressure gauge is screwed into the fuel rail and the engine is started, warmed up, and then turned off.  If the fuel pressure drops to zero quickly, you have a leaky injector or two.  Now, it is a matter of replacing the injectors that leak and the problem should be solved.

QUESTION: Thank you for the answers. I would like to know  if the car has a leaky injector or two, the car is hard to start only on the time of refueling.
By the way, before the problem of hard to start happened, I got a code P1444 and P0325 when "engine service soon"light coming on,the nissan dealer told me need to change the ECM and Knock sensor. I do not know why and I would like to know whether it is ture and whether P1444 related with leaky injector. Thanks

Answer
Tiesong,

P1444 is the canister purge volume control.  This is the most probable cause of the hard start problem, sometimes, when you fill the car.  The canister purge valve controls the colume of vapor that is allowed back to the engine.  Basically, the car has a closed fuel system where no vapor is allowed to the atmosphere.  So, when you start the car the valve opens up and allows vapor from the canister to flow to the engine and it acts like a rich condition whereby it simulates a choke on an old carbureted car.  Now, if the valve hangs open too long it will flood the car.  Also,if you filled the car and there is gas (liquid) in the canister that has not been allowed to condense back and run back to the gas tank it will get sucked into the intake flooding the car.  Replace the canister purge valve.  If the P0325 has not been repaired do it as soon as you have the time.  The P0325 is the knock sensor and if this is defective, which it probably is, causes the car to go into a pre-programmed limp mode and in doing so retards timing to keep from causing internal engine damage.  The knock sensor provides information to the computer to retard timing when the sensor detects knocking (pre-ignition).  Replace the knock sensor.  I did not know these codes when we first discussed so my suggestion is to replace both and reset the computer.
