Nissan Repair: cv boots, cv boots, speciality shops

Question
Hi my brother in-law went to Crown Nissan in Ontario, CA and came home with a major problem CV boots broke and there was oil everywhere. When they gave him the invoice the invoice stated bad CV boots but they didn't clarify how bad the CV boots were. My question is should they be responsible for not showing him the bad CV boots to him and also letting him drive home like that.

Answer
Marcy,

No, they are not responsible and the grease leaking out has really not hurt anything.  You could do a rebuilt set and just change them or get yours rebuilt.  Then, get an alignment.  The CV boots just wear out.  Driving it for several weeks with the grease gone is what will damage the CV itself.  Get them rebuilt or replaced and he should be fine.  This is not something you want to go to the dealer for since they are quite expensive.  If you shop around there are speciality shops that do it for much less.
