Nissan Repair: 1994 Nissan Altima shuts down, electrical anomalies, nissan altima

Question
Sometimes I'm driving along and all of a suddne with no noticeable sounds, flashes, change of driving performance, the whole car goes dead.  Every electrical item including the engine shuts off.  The car isn't overheated.  It comes back on after coasting to the side of the road and stopping then shutting the ignition off and comes on some random time after sitting; usually in under 10 minutes.  The clock is reset to 12:00 and the battery starts the car fine.

My mechanic found a couple of grounded out tail lights and fixed them and the rubber wrap around the brake peddle depressing the brake sensors was replaced and the pedal adjusted a couple of turns toward the floor board.  So far it hasn't shut down.
This shutdown is pretty rare.  The only other electrical anomalies are the right head light low beam has burned out several times (moisture problem?) and the drivers side door had a collision which was pounded out.  The inner door is off and all the electronics disconnected but the power outage still happened once since.  Before the door was pounded out the mirror adjustment control on drivers side blew fuses.

Answer
Steve,

Sounds like you need to do to things.  First, get into that door and find what is shorting out.  Second, check the ignition relay to see if it is opening.  Other causes for the everything going out are the master fuse being loose and a dead short in the ignition switch.
