Nissan Repair: 1994 Nissan Sentra LE 1.6 liter, automatic transmission, mass airflow sensor, nissan sentra

Question
Hi. I'm having the upmost trouble with my 1994 Nissan Sentra; it has 252,000 miles on it. Within the past 2 months, I have spent an estimated total of $1,200. It's had a FULL tune-up, new EGR valve-Nissan Dealership ran diagnostic test and it pulled Code 32; the EGR valve was sticking-new tires, CV joints and axles; almost everything on this car, mechanically, is new.

After the new EGR valve was installed, the car still ran rough-idling rough anyway. The technician that works on my car rode with me and when I pulled off the highway to let it idle, he told me to leave it in gear and pop the hood. He unplugged the hose from the VC Cut Solenoid Valve and it-literally-instantly fixed the problem.

So we get back to the shop, he orders a new solenoid valve and left the hose unplugged until I got it back in to him a week later. And it ran like a champ the entire time the hose was unplugged! You would think that was the problem, right? Keep reading.

Took it in the shop for him to put the new solenoid on, plugged the hose back up... STILL was not running right. So now at this point, everybody's just guessing because nobody can seem to find the problem and I can't afford to keep paying for these very expensive parts that might be wrong with it.

Can you please help me?!

Thank you,
Ashley

Answer
Ashley,

I know it sounds strange.  But, have them look at the mass airflow sensor to verify that it is not out of range.  The mass airflow sensor will screw up and not throw a code causing your car to run rough and sometimes die.  Have them check this.  The Sentra is a strange car when it comes to mass airflow sensors.
