Nissan Repair: fuel pump removal for 2001 Nissan Frontier, nissan frontier, plastic sleeve

Can you please tell me how to remove the fuel pump from a 2001 Nissan Frontier 6cyl. I have the tank removed and the pump is in a plastic sleeve. I can not get the sleeve removed from the tank. I have tried for several hours, and it won't budge. I have called several mechanics and they just say it should just come off. Is there a secret or ??? Please help. Thank you, Steve W.

Hi Steve -

I know you don;t want to hear this, but it is supposed to come off by angling the pump a certain way, and holding the float.
