Nissan Repair: Nissan Sensor Problems, crankshaft sensor, nissan xterra

Question
Hello,

I have had so many problems with my nissan xterra. It is a stick shift and too start first gear went out a couple months ago. I took it to Aamco and had it fixed for $2000. I tried to get it smogged and it wouldnt pass because the crankshaft sensor, the speed sensor, the knock sensor, and the rear oxygen sensor were not reading. To get these sensors fixed by the dealer it will cost $1600 and it is past 100,000 so the recommended i should get the timing belt fixed for an additional $1100  making my totals in repairs $2700. Is there a way i can locate these sensors myself to fix them? does this price seem too high to fix these sensors? isnt the knock sensor in the same place as the timing belt?

Answer
Erin,

The sensors are cheap and easy to replace.  I would not spend $1600 for them.  rockauto.com is a good source for parts that are much less expensive.  You could get a Haynes Manual and do it yourself.  I would get the timing belt replaced soon if you are at 100,000 miles.
