Nissan Repair: Nissn 1400 bakkie (pick up), power valve, float bowl

Question
Replaced points, plugs, condenser, cleaned carb but it still has bad 'flat' spots on an uphill. idles fine

Answer
Frank,

If there is a dead spot in the acceleration and you have done the tuneup then you are probably looking at a defective power valve in the carburetor or a dirty passage in the carburetor.  If you are unfamiliar with carburetors you might want to see if someone local has the ability to rebuild it.  Basically, you get a carburetor kit and disassemble yours and clean it while it is taken apart.  A can or carburetor cleaner spray with the little attachment is what you would use to clean out the passages and then you reassemble it.  Note that the float should be replaced if not metal since the foam ones end up soaking up fuel after many years.  That causes them to ride low and over fill the float bowl.  Also, the needle and seat should be replaced to make sure you have adequate control of the fuel source. Remember that a carburetor has several functions; choke, idle, intermediate, power valve and wide open throttle.  So, from what you say, I think the power valve or accelerator pump is messing up.  Check your local parts store and see if they have a kit.
