Nissan Repair: Over drive button, nissan altima, drive button

Question
I have a 1995 Nissan Altima automatic with an over drive button on the gear shifter. It's quite a nuisance to shift it into over drive when I reach 50 mph, and remember to turn it back off when I have to slow down in town. Is this a necessary thing or is it safe to leave the o/d on all the time ? I've heard it wasn't safe and I've heard it was, so what's a "girl" to do ?

Answer
Wanda,

Leave the overdrive button on all the time.  The only time I take mine off is when I am in slow traffic and the transmission is shifting from 3 to 4 back and forth.  Also, when climbing big hills and the transmission is shifting back and forth.  Otherwise just leave it in automatic with the overdrive on.
