Nissan Repair: car wont start, nissan sentra gxe, nissan sentra

Question
My '02 nissan Sentra GXE will not start.  The other day i was driving, the oil light and battery light popped on and i immediatly lost all power from the engine.  Now the car will turn over it just won't start.  i think it's the fuel pump, but i'm not sure.  Could it be a fuel pump issue and if it is where could i locate the fuel pump?

Answer
Hi Raymond -

First of all, I apologize for the delay in responding. My puter has been down the last week.

Anyway, YES, it could be the fuel pump, however you might want to double check. A car does not start because of 2 reasons, spark or fuel. Determining which one it is will make it easier to diagnose. Pull a spark plug wire and insert a screwdriver into the boot until it wedges against the terminal inside. Hold the driver about 1/4 inch away from any metal surface while a helper starts the car. If there is spark, then it is fuel. If not, then look for an ignition problem (electrical).

The fuel pump is located in the fuel tank, and the tank must be removed to gain access.

Hope this helps Raymond -
