i'm about to buy a nissan maxima 2001 with over 200 thousand miles is it worth it?

It all depends on how it was taken care of.  With 200K on the car you need to make sure maintenance was performed.  The tuneups like plugs have been done and the coil packs have been replaced.  Also, that the transmission has been serviced by regular fluid changes and that the brakes are fine.  That is, good fluid, rotors and pads.  If all checks out and the price is right then it would not be bad.  But, remember that you are purchasing a car with 200K and that means you need to keep an eye on the alternator, starter and other accessories.  The engine is good to about 300K.
