Nissan Repair: 2000 xterra, caliper, brake pads

Question
I am replacing the front brake pads and i am having trouble compressing the caliper is there a trick

Answer
Hi Mark -

Ensure the caliper is not cocked in the bore. What are you using to compress? If you are using channel locks, then you must ensure that each side of the piston is compressed evenly. Sometimes it helps to rock it back and forth to free it up.

Other than that I have used a C-Clamp before. Place the old pad on the piston, and compress the C-clamp in the middle of the pad.

If all fails, then you have a frozen piston. Just replace the entire caliper with a rebuilt. Very reasonable price.

Hope this helps -
