Nissan Repair: 1996 Nissan Maxima GLE- Timing belt or timing chain, nissan maxima gle, interference engine

I am looking at buying a 1996 Nissan Maxima, and I am trying to find out whether it would have a timing belt or timing chain. If you have any idea about this, it would be greatly appreciated.

all vg30de v6 engines have timing belts.  this is an interference engine as it is DoubleOverHeadCam = dohc.

interference = will possibly bend valves and ruin pistons.

having stated that, this should not be too much of a concern as long as you keep on your maintenance schedule, these are very dependable motors.  


good luck with your purchase, you wont be disappointed.  make sure its clean underneath, no rust or rot and check your coolant and oil that they are clean and not leaking.  i would also have the charging system checked as these alternators can become a huge pain to replace.  give me some updates if you purchase, xxp_sebby@yahoo.com.
