Nissan Repair: fuel guage, nissan pathfinder, fuel sending unit

Question
let first give you a brief back ground on what has been going on. first while i was driving home from work one day my car died on the road, turns out that  it was the sender and the mechanic couldnt find one for my truck (1995 nissan pathfinder). so he ended up finding a wire that was arching out and patched it up with silicone. now the truck is running. but for some reason once we start to reach about 1/4 tank of gas the needle went wayyyyy down instantly.  below the E. and from there is keeps bobbing up n down and then wont come up. what could that be.

Answer
Hi Jayme -

Looks like it is the fuel sending unit located in your gas tank. It is attached to the fuel pump, float, and screen. Because the fuel tank has to be removed to access, it is best to replace everything there. Also wherever the mechanic "patched" up the wire, I would replace the entire wire as well.

Hope this helps -
