Nissan Repair: 2001 Pathfinder No start, fuel pressure regulator, late model cars

Question
No previous problems with starting or anything else. Pathfinder sat for 1 week in blowing snow.  engine was packed with snow.  Cranks easily, but no start.  Has spark, plugs are bone dry.  can't find the fuel rail test to test pump pressure.  May be a bad fuel pump relay or fuel pressure regulator -- not getting fuel.  any ideas?  jumper the relay?

Answer
John,

Nissan has a problem with starting in really cold weather.  The no start condition is most probably fuel related.  If there is a way to get the vehicle inside a heated garage you would probably solve the problem.  But, I would full the tank with premium gas and a fuel treatment like Lucas.  I have used this with success and not melted injectors.  Stay away from the high octain types as they tend to screw up the fuel injection.  There is no test port for the fuel rail since Nissan and most other manufactures deleted them to save money.  I just plunked down $100 bucks for a fuel rail adapter kit to check fuel pressure on late model cars.  You have to disconnect the hose from the fuel rail, insert the adapter, with the schrader valve, to have a port for checking pressure.  But, back to your question.  I would get the vehicle inside and warm and it should start.  Nissan has had several (no-start in cold weather) bulletins on their products in recent years and I am sure you are experiencing the same...
