Nissan Repair: 1985 nissan 300zx vibration, outer tie rods, nissan 300zx

Question
at very slow speeds I have extreme vibration on the front suspension, in the Haynes manual it says to have a Nissan tech do the toe-in or toe-out, it is like driving over constant speed bumps. A car mechanic says I can measure from the ball joints to the boots on each side and adjust so the distance is the same. Is this correct or is there something else I should be looking at , I have already swapped tires from left to right in front. My wear was starting on the left outside tire.

Answer
Richard,

A number of things can cause the condition. Tires that are out of round, inner or outer tie rods that are worn are the two most common causes of the condition.  I would get the car on a lift and check out these two things I have mentioned.  A good shop could easily show you any play in the suspension components, like those that I have discussed.  Also, if belts are seperating on the tires or if they are out of round that should be apparent on a lift.
