Nissan Repair: No ignition., blown fuses, fuse panel

Question
QUESTION: I replaced the engine on the 95 altima gle with a used running engine. Prior to replacing the engine every thing worked--Pwr. windows, sun roof turn signals etc.
I Reconnected everything. New battery. Turned the key to the on position, then to the start position. The lights on the dash lit up, then went off, the starter did not turn on and now I do not have anything. The windows, sun roof etc do not work. The head lights come on, brake lights work, Hazard lights work, interior lights work, door locks work. I checked all fuseable links. Checked everything under the hood. The starter will crank if jumped. Have power at the alternator.
There is a small blinking light in the center of the dash that blinks "security". It blinks with the ign. off or on continously. Cannot find anything disconnected, no blown fuses. Do not have any power to the distributor or any of the other connectors with the key in the on position. I have checked all connectors for corrosion, tightness, bent pins. I have not checked the ignition switch, that is the next area I will look. I only have a key, not clicker came with the car. There are three relays under the hood on the right fender that are labeled security.
Thanks for any info.

ANSWER: DWC84HD,

The security system is only supposed to kill the fuel pump.  If you are not getting power to the coils you need to check the ignition relay under the hood.  I would also check the fuse links at the positive battery cable and make sure the alternator is wired correctly.  Those are the most common causes.  Oh, be sure to check all the grounds on the engine and chassis to make sure they are hooked up correctly and that they are tight.

QUESTION: I cannot find a relay under the hood. I have pulled the two ignition relays that are in the fuse panel and am checking them.
I have already done the things you mention, especially the grounds and the fuse links. The alternator is wired properly and has power to it. This car was intact when I purchased it. When I pulled the engine I marked everything for simplicity of re-installing.
Does the power from the battery go directly to the fuse panel and then to the ignition switch? If the relays are the problem why does the windows/sunroof/turn signals/mirrors not work?
The engine is a 1995 2.4 liter.
Thanks again for your help.

Answer
DWC84HD,

I had a strange car like yours several years back where the converter melted the wiring to the seat and that took all kinds of things out.  I was only doing a head gasket and discovered that the windows, sunroof, turn signals and mirrors did not work.  There is a circuit breaker on the firewall, under the dash, close to and above the pedals that was opening as soon as the car was turning over.  Turns out the converter melted the harness under the seat.  After correcting the short all was fine.  Check this out and email me back.  Also, if you disconnect the battery, and have it real quiet, listen when the battery is reconnected for the click from the circuit breaker.
