Nissan Repair: 1985 300zx, mass airflow sensor, fuel pressure

Question
When driving in first gear going about 8 to 10 mph and you take your foot
off the gas there is a pulling or dragging feel and sometimes a pop or light
bang like a quiet backfire. If trying to cost at 5 to 7 mph and foot is taken
off of gas it does not happen. I notice it when slowing down behind a car
in a parking lot for example foot not on clutch or break

Answer
Delia,

The distributor is probably leaking internally and getting oil on the optics.  I would replace the distributor with a rebuilt unit if you find oil on the optical shutter wheel under the distributor cover.  You have to remove the cap, rotor, rotor post and then the cover to get to the optics.  Other things that can cause the popping would be the mass airflow sensor sticking.  Be darn sure the plugs are fresh and the fuel pressure is correct.  Change the fuel filter if you have not done so in the last year or so.
