Nissan Repair: Car emitting fumes/odor., rotten egg smell, egr valve

Question
I have a 2004 Honda Accord 6cylinder. When driving, car emits an odor like melting plastic. At first I thought maybe a plastic bag got entangled around the muffler or catalytic converter. Car runs fine- city and highway-fluids all normal --no leakage-no smoke. Any idea of what could be causing this plastic like smell?  Thanks for your thoughts.  Jack

Answer
Jack,

I am thinking rotten egg smell as what you are describing.  If this is the case, you need to do a tune on your engine.  Add a tank of super unleaded and the smell should go away.  Sulphur dioxide is the smell and that is what the converter puts out when the engine is not running properly.  Sure, it feels right.  But, there is something wrong like a sticking EGR valve or really bad plugs, or even plugged up injectors.  Lastly, try an additive in the gas like CD2 or another brand that cleans injectors.
